An inherited instinct, honed across a decade spent living on the European continent among its old-world traditions, led naturally to a design style of classical, traditional silhouettes, pattern used with confidence, and colour handled without hesitation.
Time spent wandering cobbled streets, passing through world-renowned antique markets, and touring centuries-old country houses (one of them, eventually, home) became her real design education.
Before turning her full attention to interiors, Deirdre spent a decade as a leading creative director and educator. Canadian by birth, she came to Switzerland by way of the American South, London’s Chelsea, a marriage to a German and she now lives in a historic 1875 villa in the Swiss countryside.
Switzerland brought the studio a second speciality. A shared love of skiing first drew Deirdre and her husband to the Alps, and the studio now designs traditional chalets, often for international families, to act as a beautiful backdrop to winter ski seasons.
Deirdre von Gruben is a boutique interior design studio in Switzerland. We work with clients who share our love of pattern, colour and the English country house: in person across Switzerland through our Full Service Design, and clients further afield through Online Design.
The studio operates in English, and takes on a small number of projects at a time so each receives our full attention.
